Save for the editing, your search term(s), and considering corded keys one keystroke, that would be 10 key presses, including closing out the split view at the end. If I knew what I wanted to jump to, like something with an obvious word, I'd just hit / and type some part of it and hit enter to jump there in the current view, edit that, then close the window with :q. If I wanted to be in the other panel before jumping, I'd hit Ctrl+w (window command to follow), then one of the cursor keys to move right (l) or down (j).
That's 'split' or 'vertical split' writ small. In vim, I'd split the window vertically (2 side-by-side views) with :sp, or horizontally (one above the other) with :vs. emacs is that thing I don't really know well, but am curious about.
